Can you create your own destiny?

 

 

 

Orison Swett Marden said, "Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. Weak men wait for opportunities; strong men make them."

Despite unbelievable odds, there are those people who rise above their challenges and obstacles and make something very special of their destiny.

Building your destiny is a bit like baking a cake. If you bake a plain sponge cake with  your life then that is all you can taste, but if you choose to make a rich chocolate cake and add spices and cream and other delicious ingredients, then your life will be filled with a number of wonderful tastes and experiences.

 

If we believe that we are the master of our destiny then we have more power to change our destiny and what we want from life. Some believe that there are two different types of people, those who sit around and wait for their future to happen to them and those who take their future in their own two hands and make it happen for them.

 

Life is made up of many different choices and decisions. We can agree that our upbringing and family life may play a large role in shaping the future, but if we choose to live through the past, then we may be one of those who wait for things to happen and end up missing the many opportunities that come our way. People who build a powerful destiny are constantly growing and changing within a dynamic society and environment.

 

If we allow our external world to dictate our journey through life, then we are just putting further obstacles in the way of endless possibilities. Some may even find this acceptable as they prefer to live in a comfort zone, and are happy to continue living their lives within the proverbial box.

 

Others choose to live out of the box and make a decision to create their own happiness. They are flexible enough to look at a situation that is not working and find ways to create new opportunities for themselves. They have a strong network of people around them that they can turn to or utilize when they need to change the course of their lives or expand their experiences.

 

The perfect example of someone who has created their own destiny is Susan Boyle, a lady with a beautiful voice who appeared from nowhere and won the 2009 Britain’s Got Talent Competition. If she hadn’t entered the competition, she would still be singing to herself in the shower and no-one would have discovered her. The same goes for many of the wonderful sports people that we have in South Africa. They never gave up and through their determination rose to fame and made a name for themselves.
