Yule 2022
Yule 2022 falls on Wednesday 21st December and runs through until Sunday 1st January 2023. Yule is the celebration of the winter solstice and the honouring of the returning of the light. After the solstice the days, very slowly, start to get longer and the nights shorter and Wednesday will be the longest night of the year before the rebirth of our Sun. Yule is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the world and far outdates the Christmas that we know today.
So how can we celebrate and honour this special occasion? The darkness of the day calls for reflection while the return of our Sun calls for celebration. The Celts assumed that the Sun stood still for the 12-day period so would therefore light logs to keep evil away during this time and attract abundance, although, we can simply pop to the local supermarket and buy what we recognise as a Yule log and share it around friends and family to honour our ancestors!
Personally, my favourite, and easiest, Yule ritual is a Yule feast. I am spending this beautiful solstice with one of my closest friends where we will have a lovely full roast, cheeses, pates… basically a mini early Christmas! I have her Yule gifts ready for her and we will spend time talking, reflecting on the year and discussing our wishes for what we want to manifest on the return of our life giving, divine masculine Sun. We will be keeping warm, snuggling up with blankets in our pjs and focusing on what we have chosen as the main theme of the night. Gratitude. Gratitude for the beautiful food we have to eat, gratitude for each other and gratitude for what 2022 has brought us. Yes, even the tough parts, it’s made us who we are as humans on this solstice.
Another beautiful friend of ours is a Priestess and gave us a simple, yet effective, ritual for Yule which we are going to do and is so simple for any of you to do at home. She told us to take some pinecones, write down our wishes and manifestations on small pieces of paper, roll them up and put them inside the pinecones. We can either then bury them, burn them (safely) or keep them to reminisce on Yule 2023! This is so simple I am even going to do this with my young children! Although we have decided to keep ours to look back on to be able to thank the universe for providing for us.
This is the easiest event on The Wheel to celebrate, but please do remember, that we are always here at the end of the phone to help you work out your direction for the sun’s return, or to help process 2022. This is what we live to do. I will be available until 7pm GMT for any help you need in working out what you need to reflect on or manifest.
But, I have to point out, my favourite of all Yule celebrations is to kiss that special person under the mistletoe!
Keep warm, express gratitude and fill your tummy!
Happy Yule!
